Obituary: David ‘Dee’ Eugene Duncan

September 25, 1947 – September 13, 2005

David ‘Dee’ Eugene Duncan, 77, of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025, at his home.

Born September 25, 1947, in Bedford, he was the son of Charles and Helen Margaret (Hickman) Duncan.  He married Dawn Dunbar on October 8, 1993, and she is his surviving spouse.

Dee was a 1965 graduate of Mitchell High School.  He was a dedicated employee of Lehigh Cement Company for nearly 47 years.  He began as a laborer, advancing to millwright and then to millwright supervisor, until his retirement.  Dee enjoyed softball, golf, riding horses, fishing, woodworking, and riding motorcycles.  But his main passion was his artwork, especially his yearly Christmas cards that he painted.  Dee attended Work of God Church.

Surviving are his wife, Dawn Duncan of Mitchell; children, Brian (Morgan) Duncan of Mitchell, Erin (Nathan) Cheney of Mitchell, Brea (Josh) Blackwell of Mitchell, and Kinsley (Braxtan) Hardwick of Mitchell; grandchildren, Ashley (Will) Terpstra, Alyssa (Logan) Duncan, Caleb Cheney, Luke Cheney, Eli Cheney, Nolan Cheney, Nora Blackwell, Emma Blackwell, Savannah Brock, Bryleigh McKnight, Rhett Duncan, and Grayson Vance; and great-grandchildren, Alexis Duncan, Luna Terpstra, and Leon Terpstra.

His parents, infant daughter, Michelle Duncan, and brother, Charlie Duncan, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Mark Duncan and Pastor Dwight Dunbar officiating.  Burial will be at Bonds Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Dee enjoyed and anticipated the annual Persimmon Festival as much as his birthday, which always fell during festival week, so it was very special for him.  Since this will be his first missed festival, in lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to be made in Dee’s name to purchase ride armbands for kids in need.  Checks can be made payable to Dawn Duncan.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.chastainfuneralhome.com.
