BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington City Council will take up proposed ordinances on water rates, utility improvements, and fiber connectivity funding during its regular session on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting, scheduled for Council Chambers at the Showers Building, 401 N. Morton St., will also be accessible online via Zoom.
On the agenda are two water-related measures: Ordinance 2025-35, which would amend the city code to adjust water rates, and Ordinance 2025-36, which authorizes revenue bonds to finance extensions and improvements to Bloomington’s waterworks utility.
Council members will also consider Appropriation Ordinance 2025-08, which proposes transferring funds from the General Fund to the Fiber Connectivity Fund and appropriating additional resources not otherwise budgeted. Another measure, Appropriation Ordinance 2025-09, seeks to appropriate new General Fund expenditures.
Four proposals are up for second readings, including two aimed at advancing digital infrastructure: Ordinance 2025-33, which would establish the Fiber Connectivity Fund for digital opportunity initiatives, and Ordinance 2025-34, which would create a fund for proceeds of the surety bond secured for fiber optics work in Bloomington and Monroe County.
Also slated for consideration are Resolution 2025-16, requesting that the Food and Beverage Tax Advisory Commission recommend expenditures of local tax revenues, and Resolution 2025-15, which outlines expectations for councilmember liaisons to boards and commissions.
The Bloomington Housing Authority is scheduled to present a report, and residents will have opportunities to speak during two public comment periods. Each speaker will be limited to three minutes.
Meetings are broadcast on Community Action Television Services at catvstv.net, the city’s YouTube channel, and bloomington.in.gov/council.
