BEDFORD – Home-course rounds at Otis Park have been rare for Bedford North Lawrence. The Stars have been on the road more than a touring rock band. So playing the back nine in competition was a chance to make some sweet swing music.
BNL hit the high notes with low scores while posting a 162-223 victory over Brownstown on Thursday afternoon. All four top scorers had birdies on the scorecard, and that always sounds good.
Kinleigh Root was the medalist with a 1-over 36 that included two birdies, and she had plenty of company in the red-figure club.
“It was a pretty solid round,” BNL coach Carly Stigall said. “We did a lot better job at recovering when we needed to, and played smarter golf as well.”
Root had birdies on the 13th and 17th holes, offsetting three bogeys. Sammie Nusbaum eagled the par-4 13th and added a birdie on the par-3 10th en route to carding 38. Lower in the order, Kadynn Canada fired a smooth 41 with a birdie on the 17th, and Bella Warren posted the first two birdies (the 11th and 16th holes) of her brief career to cap the team scoring with 47.

“Root and Sammie put Tuesday’s round behind them and locked in to bring in good scores,” Stigall said. “Bella and Kadynn both worked on their swings yesterday and brought in solid scores as well.”
“The conference tournament is Monday, and these girls have been working hard these last couple of weeks to prepare for it. Some just have a few swing keys to lock in, but these girls are ready for the challenge.”
BNL will compete in the HHC at Jeffersonville.
