BEDFORD — A Bedford man was arrested Tuesday evening on multiple charges after he was reportedly seen yelling at cars while in his underwear.

Just over an hour later, at 8:07 p.m., officers were dispatched to a new location, the area of 14th and I streets, for a report of an intoxicated man cursing at people in the roadway. Major Swanson again located Atchison in a nearby alley. Atchison was seen in his underwear, throwing his hands up and yelling at a passerby.
Major Swanson noted that Atchison was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol. Atchison admitted to drinking “not very much,” but a preliminary breath test yielded a positive result of .138, over Indiana’s legal limit of .08.
When officers attempted to arrest him, Atchison resisted. He pulled his hands away, tensed his arms, and tried to turn and face the officers. He had to be forcefully restrained before being transported to the Lawrence County Jail for housing on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
