MITCHELL — The City of Mitchell is encouraging residents to get their properties in order ahead of the annual Persimmon Festival with a communitywide Clean Sweep event.
From Sept. 15–19, city crews will collect large items placed curbside for disposal. To arrange pickup, residents must call City Hall at 812-849-4168 during the cleanup period.
Acceptable items include furniture, up to four car tires (excluding semi or tractor tires), light construction materials generated by residents, and appliances without compressors. Refrigerators, air conditioners, televisions, and contractor-generated debris will not be collected.
The Persimmon Festival, Mitchell’s largest annual event, draws thousands of visitors downtown each fall. City officials said the cleanup initiative is designed to help neighborhoods put their best foot forward before the festivities begin.
