Bedford announces automated compost truck service

BEDFORD — The City of Bedford introduced an automated compost truck to improve efficiency and provide daily yard waste collection.

The automated system will now empty green toters and blue toters with blue lids. Toters must be placed at the street to be collected. Weekly pickups will continue on residents’ regular trash day through Oct. 31.

From Nov. 3 through March 27, 2026, residents must call to request yard toter service.

The city said the automated system is expected to improve response times while maintaining convenience for residents. Toters are available through the city’s trash utility, with costs split between the city and residents. The approximate cost to residents is $26.
