Traffic stop leads to discovery of 57 grams of meth and arrest of two Marengo residents

CRAWFORD CO.— A traffic stop early Wednesday morning culminated in the arrests of two Marengo residents following a months-long investigation into alleged drug activity in the Carefree area of Crawford County.

The Indiana State Police and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office had been receiving tips for several months regarding drug activity. On Wednesday, August 27, at approximately 12:44 a.m., Trooper Jon Villanueva and Deputy Tyler Smith conducted a traffic stop that led to the investigation.

During the stop, officers observed signs of criminal activity and requested the assistance of Deputy Gary Nale and his K-9 partner, Remy. The K-9 gave a positive indication on the vehicle, but a search of the car did not turn up any contraband.

However, after speaking with the driver, Allen Crawford, 39, and the passenger, Sarah Williams, 42, officers learned that Crawford had recently used the restroom at a nearby Pilot gas station. Deputy Nathan Wiseman went to the gas station and located a misplaced ceiling tile in the restroom. A search of the area revealed approximately 57 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Police were able to confirm that the suspected drugs belonged to Crawford. Both Crawford and Williams were taken into custody and are being held at the Crawford County jail on bond.

Crawford faces multiple charges, including:

  • Dealing Methamphetamine, 10 Grams or More – Level 2 Felony
  • Possession of Methamphetamine Over 28 Grams – Level 3 Felony
  • Maintaining a Common Nuisance – Level 6 Felony
  • Obstruction of Justice – Level 6 Felony

Williams was charged with:

  • Dealing Methamphetamine, 10 Grams or More – Level 2 Felony
  • Visiting a Common Nuisance – Class B Misdemeanor

The case was led by Arresting Officer Trooper Kayla Denk-Mundy, with assistance from Troopers Jon Villanueva, Connor Giesler, and Andrew Recker, Crawford County Deputy Tyler Smith, Deputy Nathan Wiseman, and Deputy Gary Nale, along with K-9 partner Remy.
