SHOALS— The Mitchell Community School Board of Trustees will hold a meeting on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the COSMOS program.
The meeting will take place in the Shoals Jr/Sr High School Cafeteria, located at 7900 US 50.
The meeting’s agenda is focused on a discussion of the COSMOS program, with representatives from all involved school corporations and boards expected to be present.
The COSMOS education program is a mathematics and science-intensive residential program for motivated, talented high school students with demonstrated interest and achievement in STEM fields in collaboration with Shoals, Orleans, and Mitchell Schools. It offers hands-on, lab-intensive curricula to foster students’ interests, skills, and awareness of educational and career options in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Their goal is to reshape how they educate students, preparing them for a more successful future, providing regional businesses and industries with better-qualified and prepared employees, and making it possible for more young people to stay in the region.
The Ready Schools Initiative enables school districts to engage community stakeholders and develop strategic plans designed to support students in achieving academic and career goals aligned with regional workforce needs, with a particular focus on the Indiana Uplands’ advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and national security and defense sectors.
