Hostess recalls Ding Dongs over potential mold contamination

INDIANA — Hostess Brands has issued a nationwide recall for several lots of its Ding Dongs snack cakes due to a manufacturing issue that could lead to mold growth before the expiration date.

The recall, which parent company J.M. Smucker Co. announced on August 20, affects the following products with a best-by date between August 30 and September 3, 2025:

  • Hostess Chocolate Ding Dong Single Serve (two-count; UPC: 8-88109-01002)
  • Hostess Chocolate Ding Dong (10-count; UPC: 8-88109-11061)
  • Hostess Chocolate Ding Dong Family Pack (16-count; UPC: 8-88109-11092)

According to the recall notice, a mechanical issue during production created conditions that could allow mold to grow. The company has since resolved the problem, and only five lots of the snack cakes are affected.

The recall is a Class I recall, the highest risk level, which means consuming the products could cause serious health problems. Consumers who have purchased the recalled Ding Dongs are advised not to eat them. Instead, they should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement.
