BEDFORD – Three juveniles were taken into custody on Monday evening following a report of a break-in at a building on J Street. The Bedford Police Department received a 911 call at approximately 6:53 p.m. from a caller who reported seeing two males on their security camera inside the building located in the 1600 block of J Street.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Michael Bell, a second 911 call identified the males as juveniles fleeing the scene on bicycles. Officer Haluda located one of the juveniles near the intersection of 17th and K Streets and detained him. The second 911 caller later confirmed the juvenile as one of the individuals involved. The detained juvenile identified two other individuals involved in the incident.
The owner of the building provided a voluntary statement and allowed police to view security footage. The footage showed three males inside the building. He also directed officers to a door on the south side of the building with a broken window, which he believed was the point of entry. The owner reported that a Japanese or Chinese vase inside the building had been smashed and estimated its value at approximately $100. He also estimated the cost to replace the broken door window at $200 to $300. Although a vehicle on the property had also been tampered with, the owner did not wish to press charges for that.
Police located and detained the other two juveniles. All three were transported to the Bedford Police Department for processing, and their parents were contacted.
According to a supplemental report from Officer Landon Jones, one juvenile admitted to being in the building with the others and stated that one of them used a rock to break the glass on the door. He also said that they had entered a black vehicle and pulled things out, and that another juvenile had sprayed shaving cream on top of the car. Another juvenile denied breaking or taking anything and stated he was not sure who broke the glass on the door.
The juveniles and their parents were advised of their rights, and they were all released with a promise to appear for Lawrence County Juvenile Probation on September 3, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.. They face charges of trespass and criminal mischief.
