SEYMOUR – Bedford North Lawrence finished third in the Seymour Invitational during girls high school cross country action on Saturday.
The Stars totaled 67 points in the seven-team field. Jennings County won a tight team battle with 50 points while Seymour was second with 51. In the boys meet, BNL was sixth with 138 points, as Seymour won the crown with 33.
Paige Voigtschild paced BNL in the girls meet, finishing second in 19:43.94. Jennings County freshman Addistyn Long was the individual winner in 19:30.86.
Other top BNL performers included Claire Voigtschild (sixth in 21:12.83) and Madison Chandler (16th in 22:29.66).
“We had a really great day,” BNL coach Amy Greenan said. “Our girls showed up for each other and went after it. We had several nice PRs, and a lot of big time drops from last week. The girls were not timid about pushing their limits. We are heading in the right direction.”
In the boys meet, Eli McFarland was the BNL frontrunner, crossing 16th in 18:50.80. Other top finishers for the Stars included Hayden Rich (22nd in 19:22.09) and Clayton Schaefer (37th in 21:10.03).
“Eli had a nice race and finished his last kilometer quite well,” BNL coach Nick Boyd said. “Hayden continues to improve. We have a few people hurting at the moment, so perhaps the most salient thing is finding some health and wellness in the future. We are learning to push more and are eager to progress throughout the season.”
Seymour’s Micah Jablonski was the individual champion in 16:53.48.
BNL will host the annual Scott Hiles Invitational in its home opener on Monday.
