Confrontation at recovery facility lands man in jail on battery charges

HELTONVILLE — An altercation at Transitions Recovery in Heltonville led to the arrest of a man on Monday, August 18, after he allegedly battered another person.

The suspect, identified as Eric Richardson, was located and taken into custody after a brief search.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Christian James of the Lawrence County Police Department, officers were dispatched to a battery call on Diamond Road. The caller reported that two men had been in an altercation, and one, later identified as Eric Richardson, 48, had fled the scene.

A facility technician reported the altercation and told police that Richardson and the other man had exchanged words while using an e-cigarette. According to the witness, Richardson then punched the other male in the face once, pushed him against a wall, and punched him two more times. The witness also noted that Richardson had blood on his hand from the punches.

After being located on Highway 58, Richardson admitted to hitting the other male. He claimed the male had been “mouthy” and called him names. Richardson was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail on a charge of battery causing bodily injury.
