MADISON – Today, August 21, 2025, officers from the Madison, Indiana Police Department arrested a 54-year-old Batesburg, South Carolina man on a warrant for multiple charges related to the theft of approximately $1 million from an elderly relative residing in Madison, Indiana.
The investigation by Detective Tim Denby, Indiana State Police-Special Investigation Section, and Detective Jason Duncan, Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, began in May of 2024 when a financial institution reported suspicious transactions involving the accounts of an elderly Jefferson County, Indiana woman.
During the investigation, investigators learned that in 2021, Eric Dyer, 54, Batesburg, SC, was named power of attorney/legal guardian over his grandmother, who resided in an assisted living center in Jefferson County, Indiana.Â

A review of bank records indicated that between 2022 and 2024, Dyer allegedly withdrew nearly $1 million from the victim’s bank accounts for his personal use. Investigators also learned that Dyer was behind in paying the victim’s assisted living facility’s monthly balance.
After the investigation, the case was presented to the Jefferson County, Indiana, Prosecutor’s Office for review. As a result, a warrant was recently issued for Eric Dyer for multiple felony counts of theft, money laundering, corrupt business influence, and neglect of a dependent, as well as a misdemeanor charge of elder abuse.
Dyer was arrested this morning at a hotel in Madison, Indiana. He was incarcerated in the Jefferson County Jail and will soon face an initial appearance in court.
Indiana State Police Detectives were assisted by the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana Adult Protective Services.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
