Indianapolis woman killed in roll-over crash on I-65

CLAY CO. – An accident on I-65 northbound near mile marker 10.2 claimed the life of an Indianapolis woman on Monday afternoon.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, troopers from the Indiana State Police (ISP) Sellersburg Post, as well as officers from the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, the Sellersburg Police Department, and Tri-Township Fire and Rescue, responded to the report of an injury crash on I-65 northbound near the 10.2 mile marker just north of the Sellersburg exit. Once on scene, officers discovered the passenger in one of the two involved vehicles was ejected during the crash, and the Sellersburg Post crash reconstruction team responded to investigate.

The investigation revealed that a gray 2018 Ford F-150 pickup was northbound in the center lane of I-65 northbound near the 10-mile marker when it attempted to merge into the far left lane. As the truck began to merge into the left lane, it struck a blue 2019 Chevrolet Malibu that occupied the left lane, causing both vehicles to lose control and spin into the median between the north and southbound lanes. The pickup rolled over before coming to rest in the southbound fast lane. The Malibu came to a stop, resting on top of the center guardrail barrier.

The driver of the Malibu was not injured and was released at the scene. The driver of the Ford F-150 suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital. Tragically, the passenger in the F-150, Gloria Jean Jones, 70, of Indianapolis, was ejected during the crash, and despite emergency medical assistance, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The family of the deceased has been notified.

Lanes of I-65 northbound and southbound remained closed for the investigation until approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday.
