BEDFORD— A Bedford man was arrested Thursday evening after police say he caused a disturbance at a local restaurant and was found to be intoxicated.
According to Bedford Police Officer Steven Hatton Jr., officers were dispatched to Wings and Rings on John Williams Boulevard around 6:33 p.m. Aug. 14 about a minor accident in the parking lot.

Police say the investigation revealed that a silver Ford F-150 had struck another vehicle while parking. Witnesses told officers that the driver exited from the driver’s side and later entered the restaurant with another man. Staff members reported that one of the men became upset after being refused alcohol service and began yelling, prompting management to request that they be trespassed from the property.
Officer Hatton, along with Officer Haluda, made contact with both men outside the restaurant. During the interaction, officers reported detecting the odor of alcohol, observing slurred speech, and noting other signs of intoxication.
A witness told police they saw Justin F. Sowders, 23, drive the truck into the parking lot. Officers say Sowders became argumentative and resisted when they attempted to handcuff him.
Sowders consented to a certified breath test, which police say returned a result of 0.194. He was booked into the Lawrence County Jail on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated, OWI per se, OWI endangerment, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and conditional license violation.
The Ford F-150 was towed from the scene, and no injuries were reported.
