BLOOMINGTON- On August 8, 2025, deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an address in the 4000 block of North Thomas Road, Bloomington, IN, regarding a welfare check on a 3-year-old female who was unconscious and not breathing. The victim was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital by ambulance and flown by helicopter to Riley Hospital that same day. Detectives with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were contacted and began an investigation. The victim remained at Riley Hospital until she was pronounced deceased on August 13, 2025.

On August 14, 2025, detectives arrested 27-year-old Keera L. Braun and 50-year-old Millissa D. Hicks, both of Bloomington, IN. Braun was arrested for the charges of 1 count Level 1 Neglect of a dependent and 2 counts of Level 6 Neglect of a dependent. Hicks was arrested for 1 count Level 1 Neglect of a dependent and 1 count Level 6 Neglect of a dependent. Braun and Hicks were booked into the Monroe County Correctional Center. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
