Stars finish second via tiebreaker at Country Oaks

MONTGOMERY – Bedford North Lawrence finished second on the fifth-player tiebreaker during girls high school golf action on the back nine at Country Oaks on Thursday.

Barr-Reeve set a school record with a team total of 163, which the Stars matched. Washington posted 178.

BNL’s Sammie Nusbaum and Kinleigh Root shared medalist honors with 2-over 38s. Emma Voris carded a 41, and Kadynn Canada completed the team scoring with 46.

“Root and Sammie played pretty solid,” BNL coach Carly Stigall said. “Root has been in a little bit of a slump for the past few weeks and has worked her tail end off to fix it. She really showed off her hard work to get back to where she used to be.

“The team played well, and coming down to a fifth man does sting a little bit. But we’re not done fighting and we’re ready to work to secure wins.”

Lauren Knepp and Brynlee Rollins paced the Vikings with 39s, while Grace Hickey posted 38 for the Hatchets on the course that will host the IHSAA regional.

The Stars will make their home debut at Otis Park on Monday against New Albany.
