Ford recalls over 103,000 F-150 trucks for rear axle defect

INDIANA — Ford has issued a recall for more than 103,000 F-150 trucks in the U.S. due to a faulty rear axle hub bolt that could cause the vehicle to lose drive power or roll away if the parking brake is not engaged.

“Both of these conditions can increase the risk of a crash,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in its recall notice.

The recall affects specific F-150 models manufactured between January 2, 2023, and May 21, 2025. The issue is specific to trucks equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty Package and a 9.75-inch heavy-duty axle with a three-quarter float-axle design.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the rear axle hub bolt may fatigue and break, which can damage the axle hub splines. This could result in a complete loss of drive power. A clicking noise from the rear of the vehicle may be an early sign of the bolt’s failure.

This is the second time Ford has recalled F-150s for a similar rear axle bolt issue. The recall number is 25S82.

Ford dealers will replace the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies on affected vehicles free of charge. Owners will be notified by mail, with letters expected to be sent starting next week. The recall is anticipated to run until May 22, 2026.
