George Harris, 85, of Bedford, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born December 17, 1939, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Ralph and Doris (Williams) Harris. He married Betty Stigall on June 2, 1962, and she survives. He retired as a materials handler for G.E. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. George loved music all his life, but in particular, Bluegrass music, and he played in many Bluegrass bands. The last being Stoney Point.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Bedford; a son, Hank Harris and wife, Edwana, of Williams; a daughter, Carra Neal and husband, Jeff, of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Jael Dodd and husband, Jeff, Carrisa Masterson and husband, Kory, Raegan Bryant and husband, B.J., Candra Neal, Eric Turpen, Cody Harris Claudill, and Rachael Harris; fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Clayton Harris; three brothers, Don, Wayne and Smitty; two sisters, Mildred Smith and Rosalie Terry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bruce Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14th, and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
