Rev. Wendell F. Phillips, 93, of Springville, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Born January 2, 1932. In Wayne Co., KY, he was the son of Lee and Ottie (Thompson) Phillips. He married Joyce L. Godsey on November 13, 1952, and she preceded him in death on February 10, 2017. He was a Pastor for over 40 years, serving at Springville Pentecostal Mission and other churches. He was the chairman of the Shady Springs Church Camp for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth L. Phillips, of Bedford and Doug Phillips and wife, Lori, of English; two daughters, Kathy J. Phillips, of Bedford, and Kay J. Churchman and husband, Jim, of Pekin; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Phillips, of Springville; a sister, Joyce Godsey, of Bedford; a brother, Danny Phillips, of Shoals; grandchildren, Shanae, Shellie, Andrew, Rebekah, Philip, Sarah, Corey, Andrea, Danielle, and Taylor; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Rev. Alan Phillips; four sisters, Mossie Martin, Evalee Phillips, Loretta Keseric, and Zella Sue Keithley; three brothers, Holbert, William, and Boyd Phillips.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13th, at the Springville Pentecostal Church with Rev. Doug Phillips and Rev. Keith Thompson officiating. Military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Burial will follow in Springville Cemetery West. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the church.
