Martha Eulalah Gibbons, 100, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at her residence.
She was the daughter of A. ADelbert and Zetta Ruth (Miller) Colglazier. She was born at home on March 25, 1925, in Salem, IN, on Colglazier Orchard Road. She joined Fort Hill Christian Church at a young age. Martha married Otho Laverne ‘Pete’ Gibbons on April 14, 1945, in Salem. To this union were born two daughters, Nancy Sue Piper and Barbara Jane Coursey; six grandchildren, Tally (Kent) Melvin, Butch (Dawn) Lessig, Chad Lessig, Travis Mathews, Troy (Mandy) Mathews and Ty (Kara) Mathews; eleven great-grandchildren, Logan, MacKenzie, Chadwick (Taylor Sowders), Christina (Ethan) Baer, Cole, Carly, Axel, Tristan, Keagan, Kyndall and Knox; three great-greatgrandchildren, Bodie, Norah and Mac.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A. ADelbert and Zetta Ruth (Miller) Colglazier; husband, Otho Laverne ‘Pete’ Gibbons; three brothers, Nevil, Charles, and Paul Colglazier; sons-in-law, Mike and Jerry.
Martha worked for 50 years farming beside her husband, and seasonally at Colglazier Orchard before retiring. Martha graduated from Salem High School in 1944. She did belong to the Home EC Club of Salem and Lawrence County. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen Club in Bedford and a 4-H Club leader in Lawrence County.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18th, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, 818 18th Street, in Bedford, IN, 47421. Burial will immediately follow at the Crown Hill Cemetery, Salem, IN. Visitation will be on Monday, August 18th, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m., also at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
