CARMEL – Bedford North Lawrence finished 14th in the star-studded State Preview during girls high school golf action at Prairie View on Monday.

The Stars, competing on the course that hosts the IHSAA state championships, posted a team total of 388. No.1 Zionsville won the event with 309, followed by No.3 Carmel (322) and No.2 Noblesville (327). The field included nine of the preseason top 10 and 13 teams from the top 20.

Sammie Nusbaum paced BNL with a solid 82 that included a 2-over 38 on the front nine. Kinleigh Root posted 91 on the tough layout, and Emma Voris added 95.

”The preview tournament is really all about finding out what your team needs to work on before sectional time starts,” BNL coach Carly Stigall said. “It was really nice to see Sammie, Root, and Emma drop their scores some from when they played in the state finals last season.

”This was the first time for Kadynn (Canada) and Bella (Warren) ever playing this course, so I’m really proud of them for keeping a positive attitude throughout the whole round. Prairie View really showed us what we need to work on, but this team is ready for the challenges to come, to be able to come back in October.”

BNL will visit Springs Valley on Tuesday.
