Four arrested on drug charges following search warrant in Mitchell

MITCHELL A search warrant executed at a Mitchell residence on Wednesday, August 6, led to the arrest of four individuals on various drug-related charges. The Lawrence County Police Department, with assistance from the Mitchell Police Department, conducted the raid at a home on West Main Street.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Kenton Carter, officers served a search warrant authorized by Judge John Plummer III at approximately 10:39 p.m. While approaching the residence, officers encountered a man exiting the home, who was subsequently released without charges. Upon entry, officers located and detained three individuals inside the house.

A fourth individual, identified as Toby Livingston, was seen riding a bicycle away from the area. After a brief foot chase, he was detained by officers. During his flight, he discarded a bag that was later found to contain two clear plastic bags with crystal meth and a glass smoking device. A police K-9 gave a positive indication for the presence of narcotics in the bag.

The search of the home uncovered additional evidence, including:

  • A small bag of marijuana and a cylindrical container with crystal meth in a bedroom belonging to Jesse Lewis.
  • A glass smoking device that field-tested positive for methamphetamine under Lewis’s bed.
  • A black backpack belonging to Megan Mattox containing multiple syringes, some with a clear liquid and others with a reddish, blood-like fluid.
  • In Mattox’s bedroom, a playing card with crystal meth and other loose crystals of meth.
  • Used syringes and marijuana were located in the room where Melissa Kern was found.

The following individuals were arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Security Center:

  • Jesse Dewayne Lewis, 47, of Mitchell, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with an enhancing circumstance, possession of paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana, possession of a narcotic drug, and maintaining a common nuisance.
  • Megan Michelle Mattox, 36, of Mitchell, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and visiting a common nuisance.
  • Toby Livingston, 36, of Mitchell, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, and visiting a common nuisance.
  • Melissa Dawn Kern, 52, of Mitchell, was charged with unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana, and visiting a common nuisance.

Two individuals were released from the scene without charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
