ISP investigation lands Salem man behind bars on child molestation charges

WASHINGTON CO. – A Salem man has been arrested on three felony counts of child molestation following a criminal investigation launched by the Indiana State Police (ISP).

Jeremy W. Underwood

On Sunday, officers arrested 35-year-old Jeremy Wayne Underwood on a warrant that was issued on July 29. The charges, each a Level 4 Felony, stem from allegations of inappropriate sexual contact with a minor.

The investigation began on May 19, 2025, after an Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) family case manager reported the allegations to ISP Detective Travis Baker. Detective Baker, working in conjunction with DCS personnel, conducted a criminal investigation that included a forensic interview with the victim at a local child advocacy center.

Following the investigation, Detective Baker submitted all information to the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office, which then issued the arrest warrant.

Jeremy Underwood was located and arrested without incident on Sunday by officers with the Salem Police Department and was remanded into the Washington County Jail.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
