Upon arrival, officers loudly announced their presence and instructed occupants to come to the door. Officer K. Carter noted that a truck known to be frequently driven by Cox was present, and a female inside the residence appeared to be attempting to hide. Officers also confirmed that Cox had an active protection order prohibiting him from being at the residence due to a prior domestic battery charge, with the female who was inside the home.

Due to a reasonable belief that Cox was inside, officers made forced entry into the residence by kicking the front door and breaking the frame. Shortly after, a female emerged with her hands raised, stating she did not know where Cox was but later advised officers that he had told her to hide and was still inside.

According to the affidavit, Officer K. Carter located Darcey Cox hiding under a couch in the living room. Cox was taken into custody and escorted outside.

During a search incident to arrest, Officer D. Miller located a Kodiak chewing tobacco container in Cox’s pocket. Inside the container was a white plastic bag holding a white, crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Including the plastic package, it weighed 1.31 grams on a non-certified scale.

Darcey Cox was transported to the Lawrence County Security Center and faces preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, invasion of privacy, and a warrant in another county on charges of petition to revoke his probation.
