According to the Seymour Police Department, officers observed a speeding vehicle traveling west on U.S. 50 at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Saturday. When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating their emergency lights, the driver reportedly failed to yield and accelerated, leading police on a chase.

The pursuit initially moved into the downtown Seymour area before the suspect’s vehicle headed north on State Road 11 and then onto Interstate 76.

The high-speed chase came to an end near the Walesboro exit on I-76, where the suspect’s vehicle reportedly slid off the road. The driver then exited the car and attempted to flee on foot.

Police located the driver about three miles south along the interstate, but he once again attempted to evade capture, running into a nearby field. Responding agencies, including the Columbus Police Department and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies, joined the search, deploying drones and K9 units. The suspect was eventually located hiding in thick brush.

The arrested individual has been identified as 27-year-old Brandon Thomas of New York. He is facing a felony charge of resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, along with misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement on foot and operating a vehicle while suspended with prior incidents.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
