MARION – Detectives with the Indiana State Police Peru Post have launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that took place this morning, July 27, 2025, in Marion.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 10:17 a.m., officers with the Marion Police Department responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of 4th and Western Street. The initial call alleged that a passenger in a white SUV had fired shots at a pedestrian.
As officers were en route to the scene, one officer spotted a vehicle matching the description from the original call near the intersection of 1st Street and D Street. The officer then observed a passenger in the white SUV actively firing shots from the vehicle towards a pedestrian, believed to be the same individual targeted in the initial incident.
At that point, the officer engaged the suspect and discharged his weapon. Following this engagement, the suspect fled on foot and remains at large as of the time of this release.
Authorities do not believe that anyone was struck by the shots fired by either the suspect or the police officer. However, several homes in the vicinity were hit by gunfire, though no injuries have been reported.
Any inquiries regarding the duty status or identity of the officer involved should be directed to the Marion Police Department.
Upon the conclusion of the Indiana State Police investigation, all collected information will be submitted to the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office for review. No further details are available for release at this time.
