Adam Kitson promoted to sergeant; Joins Fort Wayne District leadership

FORT WAYNE– Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott has announced the promotion of Detective Trooper Adam Kitson to the rank of Sergeant. Sgt. Kitson will now serve as a Squad Sergeant for the Fort Wayne District. He earned this promotion through a competitive process that included a written test, an oral interview, and an evaluation of his overall work performance.

Sgt. Kitson is a native of Steuben County, where he graduated from Prairie Heights High School. He then continued his education at Trine University before joining the Indiana State Police as a sergeant. Kitson gained experience working with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and the Fremont Police Department.

He graduated from the 78th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in 2018 and was initially assigned to the Toll Road Post. After a year, he transferred to the Fort Wayne Post. In 2022, Sgt. Kitson was recognized with a Combat Action Award for his courage in the line of duty, having brought a situation to an end where an armed individual was firing at other police officers. In 2023, he was promoted to detective, a role he held until this recent promotion.

In his new capacity, Sgt. Kitson will be responsible for leading a squad of Troopers at the Fort Wayne Post. His expertise extends to being part of the crash reconstruction team, serving as a defensive tactics instructor, and having previously worked as a Field Training Officer. He is also the assistant team leader of the North Honor Guard Team.

In his free time, Sgt. Kitson enjoys forging knives. He resides in Steuben County with his wife and two children.
