GIBSON CO. – A 31-year-old murder case has seen a significant breakthrough, with law enforcement announcing an arrest on Tuesday, July 22. The Indiana State Police Cold Case Squad and the FBI have apprehended Timothy R. Farber, 61, of Evansville, in connection with the 1993 murder of Norman Ellerbrook.

Norman Ellerbrook, then 63, was found deceased by his roommate on September 2, 1993, at the bottom of his basement stairs at his residence near Warrenton. An autopsy at the time revealed Ellerbrook died from blunt force trauma to his head. He also sustained multiple stab wounds, though these were not to vital areas. Despite years of diligent investigation by detectives, the case remained unsolved, with no one linked to his death.
The renewed investigation by the Indiana State Police Cold Case Squad and the FBI proved pivotal. Recent DNA evidence played a crucial role in connecting Farber to Ellerbrook’s death. The DNA analysis was conducted at the Indiana State Police Regional Laboratories in Evansville and Indianapolis.
On Tuesday, July 22, the Gibson County Prosecutor’s Office filed for a murder arrest warrant for Farber. Indiana State Police and FBI agents located and arrested Farber at approximately 4:10 p.m. after Evansville Police found him walking in the area of Fulton Avenue and Maryland Street. Farber was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Gibson County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
Authorities have stated that no additional information will be released at this time.
The investigation was led by Detective Toni Walden of the Indiana State Police Cold Case Squad and Detective Loren Brooks of the FBI Task Force, with assistance from the FBI and Evansville Police Department.
