BEDFORD – A Bedford man has been arrested and charged with domestic battery following an investigation by the Bedford Police Department. Lee Dewing, 46, was taken into custody after a complaint was filed on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by Officer Taylor Daugherty, police were dispatched to the apartment at 11:00 p.m. in reference to a female who reported being battered by Dewing earlier in the day.
She provided a video-recorded statement to Officer Daugherty, alleging that around 5:00 a.m. on July 2nd, she and Dewing had a verbal argument. She stated that while she was attempting to feed Dewing’s dog, he told her to “stay away from my dog” and then kicked her in the center of her chest, causing her to fall backward. She described the sensation as “uncomfortable” but reported no visible injuries from this incident.
She further alleged that sometime between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the same day, Dewing slapped her in the center of her face with the back of his hand. She again stated she had no injuries from this second alleged altercation. The woman informed officers of where she works and that she leaves for work at 3:05 p.m., and had not returned to her apartment that night. She also confirmed an on-again, off-again relationship with Dewing.
Officers then made contact with Dewing at his apartment. When questioned, Dewing stated he had last seen the woman earlier in the day, between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., and denied any verbal or physical altercations. He also denied that the woman had any belongings in his apartment, though he confirmed she stays with him “off and on.”
Based on the woman’s statement and the investigation, Officer Daugherty determined there was probable cause to believe Lee Dewing committed the offense of domestic battery and requested a warrant for Dewing’s arrest. He was detained on July 16.
A Probable Cause Affidavit outlines the initial findings and allegations that led to an arrest. Criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
