Monroe County Board of Health to hold special session for public comment

BLOOMINGTON- The Monroe County Board of Health will hold a special session to solicit input from the public on the draft Public Comment Policy on Monday, July 14, at 4:30 p.m. in the Nat U. Hill Room at the Monroe County Courthouse. A copy of the draft policy is posted on the Monroe County Health Department website.

Members of the public wishing to speak are asked to read the draft policy first and will be required to sign in at the in-person meeting. Time for each speaker is limited to 3 minutes. The public hearing will be livestreamed, and virtual attendees may also comment by raising their hand, giving their name, and turning on their camera. The only topic for public comment at this meeting will be the draft policy.

Briefly, the draft policy finalized at the June 26 meeting of the Board of Health affirms its commitment to seeking public input and outlines standards for content (only topics within the jurisdiction of the County Board of Health) and conduct (no disrespectful language or personal attacks on staff or Board). It also incorporates content from Indiana’s Open Door law for public meetings pertaining to warnings for speakers who are out of order. This draft policy represents the first ever written policy for public comment adopted by the County Board of Health.
