The position of Merit Deputy (road patrol) requires an applicant to be a US citizen, at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, hold a high school diploma or GED, and have the ability to pass the 16-week police academy. Candidates will be required to pass a written test, take part in two interview boards, and complete drug testing, background check, physical agility testing, psychological testing, and a polygraph examination. Benefits include a starting annual salary of $56,040 plus additional holiday pay, PTO time off, paid and compensatory overtime availability, Sheriff’s pension plan, yearly uniform allowance, insurance (health, vision, dental, life), deferred comp retirement plan opportunity, take home vehicle, and years of service credit for lateral transfers on the pay scale.
