MITCHELL – A Bedford man was arrested on Wednesday, June 25, following a reported domestic disturbance in the 200 block of West Warren Street in Mitchell.
Drayson P. Nunn, 19, faces a preliminary charge of battery, a Class B misdemeanor.

Mitchell Police Department Officer Jacob McMillen responded to the scene at approximately 6:40 p.m. Upon arrival, Sergeant Kuhlman informed Officer McMillen that Nunn and a 19-year-old male had been involved in a physical altercation.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Officer McMillen, Nunn stated he was upset because his ex-girlfriend was with the male. Nunn claimed he attempted to confront the male, who then swung at him first, prompting Nunn to strike back in self-defense.
However, the male provided a different account, telling Officer McMillen that Nunn approached him and Nunn’s ex-girlfriend was running towards him and drawing back his arm. The male stated he grabbed Nunn’s waist to try and gain control, not wanting to fight but prepared to defend himself. Two other witnesses corroborated this account.
Further investigation, including a review of video footage, led officers to determine that Nunn instigated the altercation. The video reportedly shows Nunn running towards the male and female, then targeting the male and drawing back his right arm, at which point the male grabbed Nunn’s waist and wrestled him to the sidewalk. The video also shows another female emerging from her residence to break up the fight.
After being advised of his options, the male stated he wished to pursue charges against Nunn for battery.
Nunn was subsequently placed in hand restraints and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
A Probable Cause Affidavit outlines the initial findings and allegations that led to an arrest. Criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
