Four area Indiana State Police Troopers celebrate 25 years of service

FORT WAYNE – Troopers from the 59th Indiana State Police Academy class hit a milestone of 25 years of service to the people of Indiana.

Master Trooper Eric Egbert is a native of Allen County. He graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in 1990. He continued his education at the University of Manchester, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a minor in Criminal Justice in 1995.

After graduating from college, he joined the Indiana State Police and graduated from the 59th recruit school. After the academy, he was assigned the Lowell Post for three years. During his time at the Lowell Post, he spent one year on a casino boat as a gaming detective. In 2003, he was transferred to the Fort Wayne Post.

Soon after his transfer, Master Trooper Egbert was promoted to Corporal and served as the Fort Wayne Post’s district duty officer. In 2010, Master Trooper Egbert transferred to the Commercial Motor Vehicle Division to work as a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer. He spent time inspecting and checking commercial motor vehicles for safety compliance. He currently serves in the Commercial Motor Vehicle Division as a School Bus Safety Inspector and is responsible for inspecting buses in Allen, Dekalb, and Steuben counties.

Master Trooper Eric Egbert lives in Allen County, the same community he serves. He is married and has two teenage daughters.

Captain Deven Hostetler is a native of LaGrange, Indiana, and graduated from Lakeland High School in 1991 and Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, in 1995. Before becoming an Indiana State Police Trooper, Captain Hostetler worked for the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and the Kendallville Police Department.

After the Indiana State Police Academy, he was assigned to the Toll Road Post. In 2003, he was granted a transfer to the Fort Wayne Post, where he served the counties of LaGrange and Noble. In 2008, he was promoted from road patrol to the Investigations Bureau, where he served as a detective at the Fort Wayne District. He was promoted again in 2016 to Sergeant and worked as the Investigative Squad Leader, and then to 1st Sergeant to serve as the district Investigative Commander in 2018. Captain Hostetler was promoted to Lieutenant in 2022 and then to Captain in 2025 in the Investigations Bureau, where he currently serves as the Commander of Field Investigations.  Captain Hostetler and his family reside in rural LaGrange County.

Master Trooper Tim Myers is a native of Fort Wayne and a 1993 graduate of Wayne High School. In 1998, he earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Ball State University. Before joining the Indiana State Police, he attended the Fort Wayne Police Department’s student police program. He also served as a reserve deputy with the Jay County Sheriff’s Department until 1999.

After completing the Indiana State Police Academy, Master Trooper Myers was assigned to the Toll Road Post, where he spent three years working in Lake and Porter Counties, and later in LaGrange and Steuben Counties.

In 2003, Master Trooper Myers transferred to the Fort Wayne Post and was assigned patrol duties in LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, and DeKalb Counties. In 2010, he began training with the Clandestine Laboratory Team, which then transitioned into a full-time detective position with ISP’s Drug Enforcement Section in 2011. During his tenure with DES, he was responsible for the investigation and cleanup of more than 500 meth labs. Master Trooper Myers transferred back to the Fort Wayne Post in 2018 and resumed road patrol duties in LaGrange, Steuben, Noble, and DeKalb Counties.

During his career, Master Trooper Myers has served as a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon (Mobile Field Force) and the Clandestine Laboratory Team, and has attended advanced clandestine laboratory training and tactical entry school in Quantico, Virginia. He lives in Rural Steuben County with his family. 

First Sergeant Brian Walker is a native of Fort Wayne and graduated from Heritage High School in 1989. After graduating from high school, F/Sgt. Walker attended Indiana University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1998. F/Sgt Walker also served his country in the United States Marine Corps before becoming an Adams County Deputy.

First Sergeant Brian Walker 

After the Indiana State Police Academy, he was assigned to the Fort Wayne Post, where he patrolled Adams and Wells Counties. In 2001, he was certified as an Underwater Search and Rescue Diver by the ISP Underwater Search and Rescue Team, a certification he held for four years. In 2005, he competed for and was selected to be a member of the ISP North Emergency Response Team, where he served as a SWAT Operator for eight years. He was then promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where he served as SWAT Team Leader for four years.

In 2017, F/Sgt Walker transferred back to the Fort Wayne Post, where he worked road patrol in Adams, Blackford, Jay, and Wells Counties. During this time, he also served as the Marijuana Eradication Coordinator for the Fort Wayne Post.

F/Sgt Walker was promoted to Sergeant in 2019 to serve as the Public Information Officer for the Fort Wayne District and again in 2024 to First Sergeant, where he continues to hold the position of Assistant District Commander of the Fort Wayne District. He and his wife live in Adams County and have three adult children.
