Short pursuit leads to arrest for dealing and possession of methamphetamine

ANGOLA – On Tuesday, June 10, just after 6:30 p.m., an Indiana State Police Trooper attempted to stop a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for speed in Steuben County on County Road 600 East near County Road 400 North.

The motorcycle rider refused to stop for the Trooper and fled to 5670 East 100 North. After leading the Trooper behind a structure on the property, the motorcycle stopped, and the rider dismounted. The Trooper watched him as he threw an object away from the scene.

Then, after briefly attempting to resist arrest, the rider was taken into custody. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Alan Jones, 60, of Angola. The article that was thrown was recovered and contained a large amount of suspected methamphetamine.

After being cleared by medical professionals, Jones was transported to the Steuben County Jail and charged with the following:

  • Controlled Substance – Dealing Methamphetamine is a Level 2 Felony
  • Controlled Substance – Possess Methamphetamine is a Level 3 Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement Using a Vehicle is a Level 6 Felony
  • Obstruction of Justice is a Level 6 Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement is a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Intimidation is a Class A Misdemeanor

The Trooper was assisted by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and Steuben County EMS.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
