Man charged after pointing gun in I-64 road rage incident

DUBOIS CO. — A 69-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a road rage incident where he allegedly pointed a gun at another driver, according to officials.

Indiana State Police say they received a call around 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, about a road rage altercation on I-64 near the 21-mile marker in Vanderburgh County.

Authorities say a driver reported a man in a black Toyota Tacoma pointed a handgun at them.

The driver of the truck was located near the 45-mile marker in Warrick County and was identified as 69-year-old Allan Messmer.

A 9mm handgun with a full, but unloaded, magazine was found in Messmer’s possession. He was transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail, where he is being held on bond.

Messmer is being held on preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon and pointing an unloaded weapon at another person.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
