Arrest made for May 22, interstate shooting

INDIANAPOLIS –  A man is recovering from gunshot wounds received while driving on I-465 southbound near I-70 on the east side of Indianapolis last Thursday. May 22, 2025, at approximately 6:00 a.m. Indiana State Troopers responded to the aftermath of an interstate shooting.

The victim was inside a vehicle stopped on the ramp from I-465 southbound to I-70. The Indianapolis Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene to treat the victim for apparent gunshot wounds, which were determined to be non-life-threatening. The victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

Indiana State Police Detectives responded to the scene to gather information, review evidence, and speak with the victim. Preliminary investigation determined that the driver of a maroon Chevrolet Silverado engaged in an alleged road rage with the victim.

As the victim drove toward I-70, the driver of the Silverado pulled alongside him and fired shots in the direction of the victim’s vehicle. The gunfire struck the victim; the suspect then fled the scene. The incident was captured on privately owned camera equipment installed inside the victim’s vehicle. With that video, along with substantial investigative efforts by ISP Detectives, a suspect was identified.

After a series of search warrants, ISP Detectives arrested 35-year-old Hector Torres Cabrera of Beech Grove on the preliminary charges of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 Felony), and criminal recklessness, a Level 5 felony.

The suspect was incarcerated at the Marion County Jail. This arrest was based on probable cause of a crime; all crimes mentioned in this release are alleged, and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
