Monroe County Sheriff Ruben Marté launches bid for re-election on June 12

MONROE CO. – Monroe County Sheriff Ruben Marté will officially announce his campaign for re-election on June 12.

Marté, a 31-year veteran of the Indiana State Police and graduate of the FBI National Academy, was first elected as Sheriff in November of 2022.

Building upon his first four years in office, Marté will continue to support and advocate for public safety, service, accessibility, and accountability, built on respect for all, transparency, and collaboration. More specifically, his three significant areas of focus will be: ensuring the current jail is safe (for staff and inmates), clean and fully staffed; working closely with all parties so that the new jail – facility and operation – becomes a model for other communities to emulate; and that his staff continues to provide the highest degree of professionalism through enhanced training and support.

Under Marté’s leadership, the Sheriff’s Department has increased correctional staff in-service training by 509% and addressed recidivism by improving mental health and related services in the correctional facility. The jail is a much safer, cleaner, and more professionally run.

The kickoff event on June 12 will start at 5:30 p.m. at Uptown Cafe on 102 East Kirkwood Avenue.

Speakers will include Jim Sims, Shelli Yoder, and Ruben Marté. Hor d’oeuvres will be served.
