Obituary: Patty Jane Burge

May 27, 1943 – May 16, 2025

Patricia Jane Burge, 81, was the baby of four born to Mary Estelle (McConnell) Burge and Raymond Burge on May 27, 1943, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Just a week short of her 82nd birthday, she transitioned into Heaven and is now reunited with her parents and three siblings: two sisters, Louise Byers and Lucille Murphy, and a brother, J.O. Burge. She also has a nephew, Michael Murphy, and a niece, CeCe Roe, who preceded her in death.

They welcomed her home on Friday, May 16, 2025.

Aunt Patty Jane will always be greatly missed and remembered by her nieces, Sally Shields, Judy Byers, Sharon Edwards, Nancy Byers, Cecelia Smith, and her great-nieces and nephews.

She was a force to be reckoned with, a fiery redhead with a spirit for adventure and a heart for the Lord and her family, whom she cherished beyond measure. Her big personality, smile, sense of humor, and kind, fun-loving nature drew others to her, and so she was blessed with many friends who cared about her deeply.

She was a farm girl who adored her horses and dogs. She grew up on a dairy farm in Kirksville, Indiana. Mornings came before dawn, and work days were long. She developed and inherited an admirable and unmatched work ethic on her family farm. She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1961 and retired from W.F. Meyers Company after 38 years of employment there.

She enjoyed farming, riding horses, and lovingly caring for her many horses and dogs. She also enjoyed flower gardening, dish collecting, decorating, celebrating holidays, especially Christmas, and spending precious time with her family and friends. She was an excellent horsewoman who drove motorcycles, tractors, farm trucks, and convertibles. She was fun and fearless.

Most of all, her life was defined by her relationship with Christ. She trusted Him as her Savior throughout her life and also as she experienced her final healing. She was a faithful follower of the Lord and enjoyed attending church and Bible study. Through her walk in faith, she made many dear friends whom she treasured. She had a strength of will and love for life that was truly astounding.
