MONROE CO. – This morning, Monroe County Deputy EMA Director Justin Baker was out with the National Weather Service assessing the damage in Monroe County. They started on the west side of the county and worked south.
Duke Energy is out repairing damaged power lines and restoring power due to the efforts of their storm crews. UDWI REMC reported 800 residents without power.
Monroe County Highway Director Lisa Ridge stated that crews rotated throughout the night and today to respond to calls for service and assist with roadway hazards as needed.
West Ison Road between South Harmony Road and South Dunlap Road is impassable. Due to the damage to trees, lines, and poles, this area will take at least the weekend to clear. Other areas in the county are being cleared up for regular traffic.
West State Road 45 re-opened around 10:00 a.m., and South Old State Road 37 is open for local traffic. South Walnut Street Pike was being worked on at 11:00 a.m. for a tree blocking the roadway.
Officials urge everyone to use caution when driving in the affected areas, as there is debris along the
sides of the roadway.
