Duke Energy restoring power in Monroe County

MONROE CO. – Duke Energy is asking the public to avoid the areas damaged by Friday’s tornadoes in Monroe County.

Utility crews are working on repairs in these areas, which include downed power lines and other hazards. Please keep your distance from those locations for your safety and that of the workers as crews restore power.

Duke Energy crews and damage assessors worked through the night to restore power to customers. As of this morning at 8:00 a.m., less than 1,000 customers remained without power. Those customers are primarily in the area that took a direct hit from the tornado.

We have fresh crews arriving this morning to continue with the restoration work. Part of that work will include replacing at least 25 broken poles. Crews reported a line of poles in the worst-hit area that were snapped off and completely gone, and several spans of wire that were blown up into trees.

Safety remains a top priority for our workers and customers. We will continue to restore power as safely and quickly as possible and anticipate that most customers will have power restored by midnight tonight.
