BEDFORD – Seymour rolled to a 4-1 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during the consolation round of the Hoosier Hills Conference girls tennis tournament on Thursday.
The Owls swept the doubles and dropped only two games on their winning courts.
The Stars posted a win at No.3 singles as Emma Conover conquered Rose Kruse 6-2, 6-3.
“Emma is coming back from her injury and just played out of her mind,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “Nothing was stopping her. She was up in the first set and asked me ‘What am I doing wrong?’ I was baffled because she was winning. One thing I noticed is my ladies strive for perfection. I love that.
”Unfortunately, perfect just doesn’t describe the rest of our night. Our top spots struggled in the rallies and just couldn’t find their footing. We kept hitting it back to the net girl every time. Seymour was just playing too good for us to catch our breath.
“This season I’ve preached footwork. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s time we shift toward our mental game, too. We fall short in tight situations and freeze up. The two ideas (footwork and mental game) go hand in hand. Both are tough to conquer, but my ladies are still determined to get better. They haven’t stopped fighting.”
BNL travels to New Albany on Saturday.
