Hoosier Hills Food Bank received a truck carrying 26,000 jars of peanut butter, thanks to a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation

SOUTHERN INDIANA-  The peanut butter, purchased with Duke’s $28,000 donation, will be available for distribution among the food bank’s 85 partner agencies in Brown, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, and Owen counties over the next several months.

“We’re really grateful to Duke Energy Foundation for making this purchase possible,” said HHFB Executive Director Julio Alonso.  “Peanut butter is a high-demand source of protein, great for kids’ programs, and versatile since it is ready to eat.  Food insecurity is at its highest levels in a decade, and we’ve experienced cuts in government commodities, so the ability to purchase nutritious food is crucial right now.”

Duke Energy Government and Community Relations Manager Liz Irwin was on hand at the food bank to see staff unload the sixteen pallets of creamy peanut butter. “The Duke Energy Foundation has been a long-time supporter of Hoosier Hills Food Bank and the important work they do,” said Irwin. “We appreciate the positive impact the organization has made to address food insecurity for the most vulnerable populations in our region and are glad we can help.”
