Woman caught with a gun in woods during Bedford Police search, male subject still at large

BEDFORD – A Bloomington woman was arrested Sunday night after allegedly fleeing from police while in possession of a handgun following a disturbance call in Bedford. According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Bedford Police Officer Joshua Turner, Jama K. Parker, 39, faces a felony charge of resisting law enforcement by fleeing.

On May 11, 2025, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers responded to a 911 open line at a residence on Pumphouse Road. Upon arrival, Officer Turner observed individuals fleeing the scene. After a brief pursuit, Parker was lying in a wood line.

Parker allegedly admitted to having a firearm, a 9-millimeter handgun, which was subsequently found nearby. She was taken into custody. A male subject who was with Parker remains at large.

According to the affidavit, Parker stated she and the male went to the residence to retrieve her son’s belongings and that she brought the handgun for protection. She allegedly admitted to fleeing from police because she had the gun in her hand.

Jama Parker was transported to the Lawrence County Jail. The firearm was photographed, packaged, and placed into evidence. She is facing charges of resisting law enforcement by fleeing and drawing a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony.
