Southern Indiana braces for multi-day severe weather threat

BEDFORD—The National Weather Service warns that Southern Indiana faces a significant risk of severe weather from today through the middle of next week.

Today’s forecast includes a chance for intense storms that could produce very large hail, tornadoes, and damaging winds. The threat intensifies on Friday afternoon and evening, increasing the likelihood of widespread damaging winds. However, the possibility of strong tornadoes and large hail should not be discounted.

The unsettled weather pattern continues, with more storms expected from Sunday night through Wednesday. Tuesday and Wednesday appear to pose the highest potential for severe weather next week. Given the timeframe, residents are urged to stay tuned to the latest forecasts for updates.

In the immediate future, today will be warm with afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures reaching the upper 60s to upper 80s. Friday will remain warm with a continued chance of strong thunderstorms and temperatures in the mid-60s to mid-80s.

A break from the storm threat is anticipated on Saturday, which will be cooler with a few clouds and temperatures in the upper 50s to upper 70s. Sunday will be partly cloudy with temperatures ranging from the low 60s to the upper 70s.

The early part of next week could bring showers on Monday, with temperatures in the mid-60s to low 70s. The potential for thunderstorms returns on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to be in the low 60s to mid-70s.

Residents are strongly advised to closely monitor local weather reports and take necessary precautions to ensure safety. Having a plan in place and a reliable method for receiving weather alerts is crucial during periods of potential severe weather.
