Traffic stop leads to drug arrest on I-74 in Fountain County

FOUTAIN CO. – On May 9, just after 6:00 p.m., Trooper Grundell patrolled Interstate 74 near the 8-mile marker when he conducted a traffic stop on a 2011 Buick LaCrosse for speeding.

While speaking with the driver, Trooper Grundell detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Based on the odor, Trooper Grundell searched the Buick.

During the search, Trooper Grundell located substances believed to be fentanyl and marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia. The suspected drugs were collected as evidence and will be submitted to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for further analysis to determine the exact identity and weight of the substances.

McCrary was arrested on charges of possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony, possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Trooper Grundell was assisted at the scene by the Convington Police Department. 

This investigation is ongoing. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
