Local law enforcement urge residents to secure vehicles amid warmer weather

LAWRENCE CO. – As temperatures rise, so does the incidence of theft. This week, the Bedford Police Department, the Mitchell Police Department, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, and the Indiana State Police are jointly reminding residents to take precautions to avoid becoming victims of these crimes.

Authorities urge everyone never to leave valuables in their vehicles and to ensure their car doors are locked, even when parked at home. These simple steps can significantly deter opportunistic thieves.

Additionally, law enforcement encourages residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity they observe. Non-emergency situations should be reported to Central Dispatch, while any immediate emergency should be reported by calling 911.

By working together and taking these preventative measures, the community can help reduce theft and keep neighborhoods safe.
