COLUMBUS – A Nashville man has been sentenced to prison after causing a serious injury crash while driving under the influence last fall on Southern Crossing in Bartholomew County.
The Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Bradley Dewees has been ordered to serve two and a half years in the Indiana Department of Corrections, followed by one and a half years of supervision probation under Community Corrections. Dewees was convicted on May 2nd on a felony charge of causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The incident occurred on the morning of October 9th at approximately 6:44 a.m. Columbus police officers and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of East County Road 450S and State Road 11. Upon arrival, they discovered that one of the vehicles had flipped over, trapping the driver inside.
Gerard Morin, 68, of Columbus, had to be extricated from the overturned vehicle by emergency responders. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted by Lifeline helicopter to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
The subsequent police investigation revealed that Dewees had crossed the centerline of Southern Crossing and collided head-on with the eastbound vehicle driven by the injured man.
