BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested for public intoxication on Wednesday, April 30th, after concerned citizens reported him falling on a sidewalk while bleeding. Upon investigation, police also discovered the man was carrying a loaded handgun.

Upon arrival, officers observed Price bleeding from his head and arm. While speaking with him, officers noted that Price was swaying, unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and there was a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his person. When advised of the welfare check and the caller’s concern about possible intoxication, Price reportedly stated he was “definitely intoxicated.”
When asked for identification and then if he had any weapons, Price allegedly lifted his shirt, revealing an unholstered, loaded tan Sig Sauer P320 handgun tucked in his back waistband. The gun was safely unloaded and secured by officers.
While waiting for an ambulance to evaluate his injuries, Price nearly fell multiple times.
IU Health ambulance personnel arrived and cleared Price medically, stating he did not require immediate hospital attention. Despite being asked again, Price declined to go to the hospital. He was then placed in handcuffs and taken into custody. Price refused a preliminary breath test.
Jason Price was transported to the Bedford Police Department for processing and subsequently to the Lawrence County Jail for housing on a charge of public intoxication. The Sig Sauer handgun was taken to the police department for evidence processing and storage.
An affidavit of probable cause outlines the investigating officer’s belief that a crime has been committed. Criminal charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
