Fatal crash under investigation on State Road 67 in Delaware County

DELAWARE CO. – At approximately 8:00 a.m., on Tuesday, Indiana State Police Troopers and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Road 67 between County Road 600 West and 700 West.

Preliminary investigation indicates a red Cadillac XT5, driven by a 22-year-old man from Muncie, was traveling south on State Road 67 when the vehicle drifted across the center line and collided head-on with a gray Dodge Ram pick-up truck driven by a 24-year-old man from Albany.

Following the collision, both vehicles caught fire.  The driver of the Dodge Ram was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Ball Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Cadillac was pronounced dead at the scene.  The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending identification and notification of family.

The Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was requested to assist at the scene.  The team worked to preserve evidence and conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the crash.

At this time, investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.  Evidence suggests that the driver of the Cadillac may have fallen asleep before the collision.

State Road 67 was closed in both directions for approximately four hours while emergency personnel investigated the scene and cleared debris.

The Indiana State Police continue to investigate this incident.  Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Master Trooper Kyle West was assisted in this investigation by Daleville Police Department, Daleville-Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department, East Madison Fire Territory, Salem EMS, Delaware County EMS, Delaware County Emergency Management Agency, and Northwest Towing.
